100% Democracy continues with the Student Vote Research Workshop!
Join leading scholars and practitioners on 4/27 to close key knowledge gaps
Dear Friends,
It’s going to take all of us to achieve a 100% Democracy. That’s why I’m so excited about the bold ideas we’re discussing during the 100% Democracy Celebration. From universal voting to civic transitions to democracy dashboards we’re looking at bold strategies to use policy, design, and research to include every voter in our democracy.
In order to generate, explore, and implement bold ideas like these ones, the 100% Democracy movement needs to lovingly cultivate spaces where people with multiple forms of expertise can share ideas and generate shared knowledge. That’s why I’m positively pulsing with joy to be partnering with colleagues from leading pro-democracy organizations across the country to convene the State of the Student Vote Research Workshop on April 27.
At the State of the Student Vote Research Workshop, leading academic scholars will join together with practitioner experts and student leaders to address gaps in our current understanding of the student vote. Each of these types of people has unique wisdom to bring to that work - this workshop will help us weave everyone’s wisdom together into bold ideas that exceed what any of us could create alone.
A full program announcement is below! Feel free to reply to me if you have any questions about how to participate and be part of generating some amazing new knowledge for our democracy.
Best,
Sam
State of the Student Vote Workshop - Call for Applications
We invite workshop participation applications for the 1st Annual Workshop on the State of the Student Vote on Wednesday, April 27 from 1:00-3:00 PM ET, organized by the Student Vote Research Network. This remote gathering will bring together scholars, students, and community partners to develop shared knowledge about college student voting to prepare for research and programming ahead of the 2022 midterm elections and beyond. The goal of this workshop is to create a collaborative space for dialogue between scholars, students, and community practitioners dedicated to growing college student voter engagement. This is an opportunity to establish and strengthen relationships between scholars from different fields and connect researchers with students and community practitioners who engage in direct student civic participation and bring their own knowledge, expertise and data on growing the student vote.
This event will provide an opportunity for attendees to share existing knowledge, workshop on-going projects, and brainstorm ideas about up-and-coming research initiatives. The event will be structured to foster networking between academic and community scholars with an eye to building long-term, on-going relationships. The goal of the conference is to produce a research agenda that addresses current gaps in our understanding of the student vote. To that end, we particularly invite applications from researchers and practitioners interested in growing our understanding of student voting on community colleges, Historically Black College and Universities (HBCUs), Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs), Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs) and Asian American and Pacific Islander Serving Institutions (AANAPISIs), as well as research focused on closing voting gaps that persist based on age and race. This conference will synthesize existing research insights, catalyze new research efforts to fill gaps in the field, and welcome new leaders to share expertise with the network.
We encourage interested parties to email beatrice@slsvcoalition.org with a short (200 word) description of their interest/connection to student vote research, along with your title and organizational/institutional affiliation by March 31. Please specify in your description if you have a project you would like to workshop at the conference. If your research interests center diversity, equity and inclusion in the student voting space, we encourage you to highlight this in your application.
